What Luxury Means to Me Now: Motherhood, Rest & the Story Behind PLUSH

For most of my career, I’ve worked in luxury fashion. For a long time, luxury meant beautiful clothes, special hotels, incredible restaurants and finally buying something I had wanted for months.

I still love all of those things. But since becoming a mum, my idea of luxury has changed considerably.

These days, luxury can be freshly washed sheets. An uninterrupted shower. A hot cup of coffee that I actually get to finish. Putting on beautiful, soft pyjamas after a long day. An early night. Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep - although that one feels particularly luxurious at the moment.

More than anything, luxury has become time. Time with my family. Time for myself. Time to rest. And those rare moments when there is absolutely nowhere else I need to be.

Redefining Everyday Luxury

We often associate luxury with extravagance, but I’m not sure it has to be that complicated. As life has become busier, I’ve found myself appreciating the small rituals at home more than ever.

Changing the bedding. Having a long shower. Doing my skincare properly. Putting my phone down. Getting into a pair of fresh pyjamas and knowing that the day is finished.

There is something luxurious about deliberately slowing down. And perhaps that is why I feel more connected to PLUSH now than I ever have before.

Why I Started PLUSH

I created PLUSH with a simple idea: the clothes we wear during some of our most comfortable, intimate moments should feel just as considered as the clothes we choose to wear outside our homes.

Pyjamas are often what we put on when we finally stop.

They are there for slow Sunday mornings, evenings on the sofa, early nights, hotel stays, Christmas mornings, getting ready on your wedding day and those first hazy weeks at home with a new baby.

Yet sleepwear can so easily become an afterthought & I wanted to create something different.

Beautiful, timeless luxury pyjamas for women that you genuinely look forward to putting on.

That led me to bamboo.

Why Bamboo Pyjamas?

When developing PLUSH, comfort was just as important to me as appearance.

Our luxury bamboo pyjamas are designed to feel beautifully soft against the skin while still looking polished enough that you don't feel the need to immediately change if someone knocks at the door.

Bamboo fabric is known for its wonderfully soft feel and breathable qualities, making it particularly suited to sleepwear and loungewear.

For me, that balance is incredibly important. Luxury shouldn't mean sacrificing comfort. In fact, I now think true luxury is quite the opposite. It should make life feel better.

Our women's bamboo pyjamas are therefore designed around those little moments at home: climbing into fresh sheets, drinking your first coffee of the morning, feeding a baby in the middle of the night or having a slow weekend with nowhere to go.

They aren't clothes designed simply for sleeping. They're designed for living in.

Motherhood Has Made Me Understand PLUSH Differently

Interestingly, I started PLUSH before becoming a mum.

But motherhood has made me understand the brand I was trying to create on a completely different level.

When your time is no longer entirely your own, small moments of self-care suddenly carry much more meaning.

Sometimes self-care isn't a spa day or an entire afternoon to yourself. Sometimes it's ten quiet minutes.

It's taking a shower while somebody else has the baby.

It's changing into clean, comfortable pyjamas.

It's making your bedroom feel calm.

It's getting into bed a little earlier.

It's choosing to rest when you can rather than feeling as though you always need to be doing something productive.

And I think we should allow ourselves to see those moments as important.

The Relationship Between Sleep and Self-Care

Building PLUSH has also made me think much more about our relationship with sleep.

We're constantly encouraged to optimise our days: wake up earlier, achieve more, exercise more, work harder and somehow fit everything in.

Rest doesn't always receive the same attention.

But creating a relaxing evening routine can be one of the simplest ways to signal that the day is over.

For me, that might mean having a shower, putting on my favourite bamboo pyjamas, making the bedroom feel calm and trying to step away from work for the evening.

Does that happen perfectly every night?

Absolutely not. I'm a mum and I run a business. But perhaps that is exactly why those rituals matter.

Luxury Is Personal

The older I get, the less I think luxury is about showing other people what you have.

Increasingly, I think it's about how something makes you feel.

A beautiful hotel is luxurious because it allows you to escape.

A wonderful meal is luxurious because somebody else has taken care of everything.

Beautiful bedding is luxurious because climbing into it feels incredible.

And a really good pair of pyjamas can feel luxurious because they're soft, comfortable and make an ordinary evening at home feel that little bit more special.

That is the kind of luxury I want PLUSH to represent.

Quiet luxury.

Comfort.

Quality.

Rest.

Beautiful things designed to be genuinely lived in.

Building a Brand While Becoming a Mum

Motherhood has also changed the way I think about building PLUSH.

My ambition for the brand hasn't disappeared. If anything, it has grown.

But I'm learning that growth doesn't always have to mean moving faster.

I'm more protective of my time now. I think more carefully about what deserves my attention, which products we should create and what I ultimately want PLUSH to become.

I want to build something with longevity.

Something my children can one day look at and know that their mum created.

And I want PLUSH to become a brand associated not simply with luxury sleepwear, but with the feeling that surrounds it.

Coming home. Taking your make-up off. Closing the laptop. Putting your pyjamas on. Climbing into bed. Slowing down.

So, What Does Luxury Mean to Me Now?

It's fresh sheets. It's an uninterrupted shower. It's drinking my coffee while it's still hot. It's beautiful pyjamas. It's an early night. It's eight hours of sleep. It's having nowhere to be. It's being at home with the people I love. And, more than anything, it's time.

Perhaps luxury was never supposed to be about having more. Perhaps sometimes it's simply about having the space to enjoy what you already have. And that is what I want PLUSH to celebrate.

Thoughtfully made. Refined essentials for living well.
